SAR-E-PUL, Afghanistan, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Up to 25 Taliban militants have been killed and 10 others wounded as clash for the control of Mirza Olang district in the northern Saripul province continues, an official said Monday.

"Some strategic areas have been retaken in Mirza Olang district and the mop-up operations backed by air fire has been continuing," Nasratullah Jamshidi, the deputy press officer of the 209-Shaheen Corps in the northern region told reporters.

According to the official, Taliban shadow-district chief, Mawlavi Amrullah is also among those killed in the fight for the control of Mirza Olang district.

Both the Taliban and Islamic State (IS) groups in coordinated operations overrun Mirza Olang district last week, killing more than 50 people including women and children and forcing hundreds others to flee their houses for safer places.
