NAIROBI, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were shot dead and several others injured in Nairobi's Mathare slums on Wednesday over electoral chaos in Kenya.

However, a Nairobi police officer who preferred to be anonymous said the two were shot dead after attempting to attack police officers with machetes in Mathare slums.

Hundreds of youth in Kisumu, Homa Bay in Western Kenya and Nairobi's Mathare slums held a peaceful demonstration after learning of the president Uhuru Kenyatta maintained lead on Raila Odinga.

Odinga had rejected the presidential results, saying the electoral body's servers were hacked, creating room for manipulation of the votes.

The demonstrators took to the Kisumu streets after listening to Odinga who cited irregularities in the presidential elections.

"We will not accept election fraud in Kenya. We want our rights to be respected," shouted one of the youth in Kisumu.

The police were forced to fire tear-gas at the unarmed demonstrators who chanted "No Raila, no peace" and slogans against President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kenyans went to the polls on Tuesday to vote in a fiercely contested presidential election, which in the last week of campaigning saw the murder of top election official and claims of vote rigging.

More than 1,200 people were killed and 600,000 others displaced during the 2007-08 post-election violence.
