Chinese Consulate General in Houston opens as usual after fire accident

HOUSTON, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Consulate General of China in Houston opens to work on Monday as usual after a fire accident happened Sunday afternoon.

Wang Yu, Chinese deputy consul general in Houston, told Xinhua the consulate is open this week as normal. The reason of the fire was not clear at this moment and it is still under investigation.

An accidental fire was caught in the consulate office building around 1 p.m. Sunday. The Consulate initiated the Emergency Response Mechanism, coordinated with the Fire Department of Houston to put out the fire quickly. No people were hurt and no serious property damage was caused.

On its website, the Consulate thanked the Fire Department of Houston, as well as the Houston Office of the Diplomatic Security Bureau of U.S. State Department for their quick and professional service.
