LAGOS, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Nigerian government on Monday promised to arrest and deal decisively with perpetrators of Sunday's killings of worshipers at the St. Philips Catholic Church in southeast state of Anambra.

Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, who made the pledge in a statement reaching Xinhua in Lagos, Nigeria's economic hub, condemned in strongest terms the killings and assured that all hands will be on deck to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Dambazau commiserated with the Ozubulu community, families who lost their loved ones, the injured, and the entire people of Anambra.

He described the incident as a wicked and cowardly act which the police and other security agencies were working hard to unravel.

Unidentified gunmen had attacked the church in Anambra in the early hours of Sunday, killing scores of worshipers while many others were injured in the attack.

President Muhammadu Buhari and other prominent citizens had condemned the incident, describing it as an appalling crime against humanity and unspeakable sacrilege.
