LAMU, Kenya, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were injured when the vehicle carrying them ran over an explosive device in the coastal Lamu county on Monday.

Regional police commander Larry Kieng confirmed the incident at Nyangoro, saying there were no fatalities.

"We have rushed the injured to the hospital. Nobody was killed after a vehicle they were traveling in ran over a landmine," Kieng said.

Authorities in the region have adopted security measures to ensure the area remains safe during the election campaigning period.

The coastal region has been a target of terror attacks in the past, often staged by Al-Shabaab terrorists who waged a war against Kenya soon after it deployed military forces to the war-ravaged country in October 2011.
