LONDON, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- British stocks rose on Friday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 0.49 percent, or 36.94 points, to close at 7,511.71 points.
Merlin Entertainments, a major European entertainments company, soared 5.75 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Mediclinic International and Smurfit Kappa Group increased by 4.06 percent and 2.80 percent, respectively.
The British residential property development company Barratt Developments was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 4.69 percent. Persimmon, a British housebuilding company, dropped 3.98 percent. Taylor Wimpey, a British housebuilding company, fell 3.74 percent. Enditem
