HANOI, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam will stop using antimicrobials in all livestock production and aquaculture, except in breeder production, next year, the country's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said on Wednesday.
Vietnam will place a complete ban on using antimicrobials in animal husbandry and aquaculture, including breeder production from 2020, because rampant use of antimicrobials fuel the presence of antimicrobial-resistant bacterium in livestock, poultry and seafood.
The ministry plans to propose amending some existing laws or issuing new ones relating to animal husbandry, seafood and food safety.
In the first seven months of this year, Vietnam made total output of over 4 million tons of seafood, including nearly 2.1 million tons from aquaculture, posting respective year-on-year rises of 4.4 percent and 4.1 percent, according to the General Statistics Office.
Meanwhile, Vietnam gained seafood export turnovers of 4.3 billion U.S. dollars, up 18.1 percent.
