LHASA, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Tibet Autonomous Region in southwest China reported 10.8-percent GDP growth in the first half of this year due to strong investment in infrastructure and robust consumption, according to local authorities Friday.

The plateau region's GDP reached 55.5 billion yuan (8.24 billion U.S. dollars) in the first half, said the region's statistics bureau.

Tibet's stellar growth is underpinned by investment in infrastructure. It achieved a 20.6-percent growth in its fixed asset investment, amounting to 65.7 billion yuan.

Total retail sales of consumer goods saw 14.2-percent growth to 24 billion yuan.

The region also raised the per-capita incomes of its urban and rural residents by 10 percent and 13.9 percent, which reached 15,292 yuan and 3,210 yuan, respectively.

In 2016, Tibet reported 11.5-percent GDP growth, realizing the 24th straight year of double-digit growth.
