BANGKOK, July 17 (Xinhua) -- The Thai navy seized three Vietnamese trawlers and arrested 18 Vietnamese fishermen in the Gulf of Thailand on Monday, said a Thai admiral.
Second Naval Area Commander Vice Adm. Pornchai Pinthong said HTMS Tapi frigate had spotted the three Vietnamese fishing boats sailing in the Thai territorial water.
The Vietnamese trawlers which had sailed from Ca Mau city in southern Vietnam with those crewmen were put under control by the Thai naval ship and brought to shore in Songkhla province, about 970 km south of Bangkok.
A total of 33 Vietnamese trawlers and 189 Vietnamese crewmen have been seized and arrested on charges of infringement into the Thai territorial water so far this year, Vice Adm. Pornchai said.
