YANGON, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Of 1,114 people have been infected with Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in Myanmar's Rakhine state, 16 local people died of the disease as of July 5 this year, official media reported Saturday.
The outbreak of DHF was common in Minbya, Kyauktaw, Taungup and Sittway townships in Rakhine state and people in rural areas are mostly infected with the fever, officials of Rakhine state health department said.
The authorities are taking anti-DHF measures and conduct awareness training courses concerning the disease in wards and schools.
DHF occurrence rate is usually increases in June and July and the fever is caused by Aedes mosquitoes with white markings on the bodies.
The symptoms of dengue are high fever, headaches, joint and muscle pain, vomiting and rashes.
About 3,304 people have been infected with DHF across the country as of May 27 this year.
