Tokyo stocks edge lower in morning as U.S. shares slide dents sentiment

TOKYO, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks edged lower Thursday morning as a drop in oil prices saw U.S. shares retreat overnight which set a negative tone for investors here.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 54.21 points, or 0.27 percent, from Wednesday to close the morning at 20,027.42.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 1.08 points, or 0.07 percent, to finish at 1,617.55.

Oil and coal product, rubber product and mining-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break. Enditem
