KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Four civilians, including two women, were killed and one woman wounded in a roadside bomb blast in southern Afghanistan's Kandahar province on Monday, provincial police spokesman said.
"The victims were travelling in a car to visit a local shrine in Darrah locality of Khakrez district in early hours of the day. But their vehicle touched off an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and the explosion left the casualties," Zia Durrani told Xinhua.
The police official blamed "enemies of Afghanistan," a term referring to Taliban militants, for the attack.
The Taliban uses IEDs to target security forces but the lethal weapons also inflict casualties on civilians, according to military officials.
A total of 715 civilians were killed and over 1,460 others injured in conflict-related incidents across Afghanistan in the first three months of the year, according to figures released by the United Nations mission in the country.
Out of casualties, 86 civilians were killed and 132 others wounded in IED attacks across the country over the period.
