AMMAN, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's government announced Friday to cut prices of several fuel derivatives by between 2 to 3 percent.

The price of gasoline octane-90 will drop by 2 per cent from 0.665 dinar per litre to 0.650 dinar per litre and gasoline octane-95 will drop by about 3 percent from 0.890 dinar per litre to 0.865 dinar per litre, while the price of kerosene will decline by around 2 percent from 0.480 dinar per litre to 0.46 dinar per litre, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said in a statement.

The ministry said the new price will go into effect on July 1 and will last for one month.

In 2012, the Jordanian government ended subsidies on fuel derivatives, triggering nationwide protests that led to injury and arrest of hundreds of people.

Jordan, with 96 percent of energy depending on imports, has been affected by repeated cuts in natural gas supplies from Egypt since 2012.
