MADRID, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Four people died and four were seriously injured in a head-on collision Thursday night between two cars south of Madrid, said rescue services.
The accident took place on the CM-4009 road in the province of Toledo.
The impact caused by the accident was so severe that the fire brigade had to cut the bodies of the victims out of the vehicles.
Three fire engines and several ambulances were called to the scene. The four killed were all Romanian, while the other four injured were described as around 20 years old.
Police are currently investigating the causes of the accident, which took place just ahead of the first big weekend of the summer holiday season between June 30th and Sept. 3.
It is estimated some 90 million road trips will be made during the holiday season, an increase of around 4.6 percent from the same period in 2016.
