NEW YORK, June 30 (Xinhua) -- A Minnesota woman was charged with manslaughter after accidentally killing her boyfriend when a YouTube stunt went wrong, according to local newspaper Star Tribune.
Monalisa Perez, 19, fired a handgun at a book her boyfriend, Pedro Ruiz III, was holding. Apparently, they had believed that the hardcover book could stop the bullet.
It didn't. The bullet pierced through the book and entered Ruiz's chest. He died at the scene.
For the past several weeks, 22-year-old Ruiz and his lover had been on a quest for YouTube fame by making and posting mostly harmless prank videos. Monday's stunt was supposed to be their big breakthrough.
Perez, who was chareged with second-degree manslaughter, appeared from jail by video at a district court proceeding Wednesday. She posted 7,000 dollars cash bail and was released late Wednesday afternoon, Star Tribune reported.
Perez, who is pregnant now, has a three-year-old child with Ruiz.
The gun Perez used in the stunt was a .50-caliver Desert Eagle pistol, a very powerful semiautomatic handgun which was designed for battlefields, the county attorney said to the press.
