BEIRUT, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Michel Aoun on Thursday convened a consultative meeting attended by political parties to discuss reactivation of state institutions, the National News Agency reported.
The meeting reviewed the obstacles and possible means to reactivate the work of state institutions, the report said.
A statement on the conference, read by Antoine Choucair, director-general of the presidency, highlighted the national commission for the "abolition of sectarianism."
It noted the country needs a "pluralistic system for a full transition to the comprehensive civil state."
The meeting stressed the need for administrative decentralization, while rejecting resettlement and naturalization of any group whatsoever.
The meeting also urged for the revival of the Economic and Social Council as soon as possible, and the implementation of a comprehensive economic plan.
The meeting also called on the government to "invest in the marine petroleum wealth and complete its legal frameworks," adding that transparency is the first criterion for work in the institutions.
The meeting was attended by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Saad Hariri and party leaders represented in the government.
Meanwhile, the meeting was widely criticized by opposition parties including Kataeb Party, whose leader Sami Gemayel argued that the opposition should have been invited to the meeting as well.
