ST. PETERSBURG, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Russian SU-27 fighter jets intercepted two U.S. RC-135 spy planes over the Baltic Sea on Monday, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.
The ministry said one RC-135 plane was flying in the direction of the Russian border and was also intercepted by a Russian aircraft. About 10 minutes later, another RC-135 entered the same area and was also intercepted.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon on Tuesday accused Russia of carrying out an unsafe intercept of a U.S. RC-135 spy plane in international airspace over the Baltic Sea, saying the Russian pilot was flying too fast and poorly controled the fighter jet.
