ANKARA, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Turkish authorities on Saturday freed the top advisor to Prime Minister Binali Yildirim detained on suspicion of links to Gulen movement.
Birol Erdem, the former undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice, was released Saturday under judicial supervision.
He was detained along with his wife on June 3 by Ankara chief public prosecutor's office, and was accused of seeking to violate the constitution and being a leader of "an armed terror group."
Last year, Erdem testified as witness in an investigation over followers of the U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen.
Gulen and his followers are accused by Turkish government of masterminding the 2016 failed coup attempt, which left 249 people dead and some 2,200 injured.
