JUBA, June 16 (Xinhua) -- The new head of South Sudan's Football Association (SSFA), Francis Amin has pledged to reform the crisis-hit body by ensuring transparency, accountability and adhering to global football laws.

Amin, a businessman, was elected new president of SSFA after beating his two colleagues with 22 votes out of 34 on Thursday evening.

He succeeds Chabur Goc Alei, who was controversially barred from defending his seat for failing to meet eligibility criteria.

"I'm committed to reform the football sector in South Sudan and ensure that it becomes a game for peace and unity. I ask the people of South Sudan to stand with me in order to achieve these goals," Amin said.

The SSFA plagued into deep crisis late last year following internal power struggle and allegations of mismanagement of the body's resources, subsequently forcing the world football governing body, FIFA, to stop funding the SSFA.

The elections were observed by representatives from FIFA and Confederation of African Football (CAF).

FIFA representative Jorge Mowinkel, urged the new president to put more emphasis on developing football in the entire country, the national team and in each of the local football associations, pledging FIFA's commitment to advance the game in the East African nation.
