LUSAKA, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Zambian President Edgar Lungu on Thursday sent a message of condolences to British Prime Minister Theresa May following the death of several people in an inferno at a flat in London.

A fire engulfed a 24-storey building in west London on Wednesday night with 17 people confirmed dead and more than 30 injured.

Lungu said in a statement released by his office that he learnt with profound sorrow the loss of many lives and injuries suffered by the survivors.

"I wish to convey, on behalf of the government and people of the republic of Zambia, and indeed on my own behalf, my deepest condolences to the people of the United Kingdom, and the families of the decease during this trying period," he said.
