TOKYO, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks advanced Friday morning following U.S. shares overnight, as investors were relieved that former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey's testimony would not overly affect U.S. President Donald Trump's administration.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 180.64 points, or 0.91 percent, from Thursday to 20,089.90.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 4.88 points, or 0.31 percent, at 1,595.29.

Information and communication, bank, and fishery, agriculture and forestry-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
