Pakistan parliament concerned about diplomatic crisis in Gulf countries

ISLAMABAD, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan parliament on Thursday showed serious concern about the conflict among several Arab countries, urging them to show restraint.

The National Assembly or lower house of the parliament adopted a unanimous resolution, calling upon the government to take concrete steps towards forging unity among the Muslims countries.

The resolution moved by a senior opposition lawmaker Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao called upon all the countries to show restraints and resolve all differences through dialogue. The treasury and opposition benches joined hands to support the resolution.

The members said Pakistan should play a neutral role to mediate for the amicable resolution of the differences among the Muslim countries.

Meanwhile the Pakistan Foreign Ministry also showed concerns at the diplomatic crisis in the Gulf region.

"Pakistan believes in unity among Muslim countries. We have made consistent efforts for its promotion. The situation, therefore, is a matter of concern," the Foreign Ministry spokesman Nafees Zakaria said at his weekly briefing.

The Pakistani parliament also strongly condemned the terrorist attacks on the Iranian Parliament and mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini.

The members said terrorism is a common threat and collective efforts are needed for its eradication.

The resolution reiterated the resolve to jointly combat the menace of terrorism with neighbors in the region.
