TRIPOLI, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Libya's eastern-based government on Wednesday banned the entry of Othman Abdul-Jalil, the minister of education of the UN-backed government of national accord, from visiting eastern Libya.

Local media said the under-secretary of interior of the eastern government, General Hussein al-Abbar, ordered all ports in the eastern region to prevent the entry of Abdul-Jalil.

The head of the security information department, Awad Ali al-Aduly, said the instructions of al-Abbar were issued following statement of Abdul-Jalil to visit the eastern region.

Libya remains politically divided despite signing a UN-sponsored peace agreement by the Libyan political rivals and appointing the government of national accord in December 2015.
