LONDON, June 7 (Xinhua) -- British stocks decreased on Wednesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index down by 0.62 percent, or 46.33 points, to close at 7,478.62 points.
Persimmon, a British housebuilding company, soared 2.05 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Lloyds Banking Group and Standard Life increased by 1.65 percent and 1.57 percent, respectively.
The global biopharmaceutical company Shire was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 3.22 percent. The British multinational advertising and public relations company WPP dropped 2.61 percent. Babcock International Group, a British multinational corporation, fell 2.00 percent. Enditem
