PARIS, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese tennis players Zheng Saisai and Xu Yifan moved into the second round of the women's doubles in the 2017 French Open here on Thursday with their respective partners.

After taking away the first set at 6-3, Zheng and Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu were forced a tiebreak, where they won 8-6 on a double fault from Xenia Knoll and Nina Stojanovic.

One day after setting her personal best of last 32 at Roland Garros, Zhang Shuai joined forces with Samantha Stosur, whom she lost to in the second round last year, but they were beaten by Xu Yifan and Gabriela Dabrowski 6-2, 6-3.

Zhang and Stosur lost four games in a row in the first set, before they held their serve in the fifth game. However, Xu and Dabrowski got the upper hand throughout the match to win in two sets.

Liang Chen and Wang Qiang only needed eight minutes to win the first round as their opponents, Chuang Chia-Jung of Chinese Taipei and Misaki Doi of Japan withdrew after trailing 1-2 in the first set.

Yang Zhaoxuan and Japanese Shuko Aoyama lost to Russian duo of Alla Kudryavtseva and Alexandra Panova 7-6 (6), 6-4.

"We got some chances, but unfortunately, we let them slip away," said Yang.

"If we had done better on our mentality, we could have expected a better result," she added.
