MADRID, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Spain's consumer prices rose by 1.9 percent in May when compared with the same month of a year earlier, according to advanced data from the Consumer Price Index (CPI) published on Tuesday by Spain's Statistical Office (INE).

The rate is 0.7 percent lower than that of April, when consumer prices had risen by 2.6 percent year-on-year. The difference was due to a drop in prices of fuel and tourist packages, the INE said.

Spanish consumer prices rose by 3 percent in January year-on-year, they increased again by 3 percent in February, rose by 2.3 percent in March and by 2.6 percent in April. Spain's consumer prices have been rising for nine consecutive months on a year-on-year basis after having registered negative rates for eight months in a row.

On a month-to-month basis, the INE reported that the country's consumer prices fell by 0.1 percent when compared to April.

The INE will confirm the data on June 13 and will provide more details about the evolution of prices. Enditem
