BEIRUT, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Six Lebanese army soldiers were lightly wounded Friday in the northern Bekaa town of Nabi Osman when a wanted fugitive blew himself up during a confrontation with a military force.
The National News Agency (NNA) said that "as a patrol from the military intelligence Strike Force was raiding a house in the town of al-Nabi Osman, two armed militants were holed up. A clash erupted with the raiding force and the militants tried to flee in a pickup truck."
"After the noose was tightened on them, one of the two militants blew himself up, wounding several soldiers," the agency added.
It later identified the bomber as being Breidi.
Other media reports said Breidi detonated the explosives inside a military vehicle after he was arrested.
Meanwhile, the LBCI TV said the six injured troops were transported by helicopter to Beirut.
Breidi is involved with the detainee Hussein al-Hassan, who was arrested Thursday, in a plot to attack churches in the northern Bekaa town of Ras Baalbek, media reports said.
Two devices had exploded Wednesday evening inside a garbage container near a church in Ras Baalbek, causing no casualties, the reports said.
