Vietnam's Southern Fruit Festival to open in Ho Chi Minh City

HO CHI MINH CITY, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's Southern Fruit Festival will kick off here on June 1, displaying and selling 150 species of fruits grown all over the country at reasonable prices.

The festival will take place in Suoi Tien Theme Park in Ho Chi Minh City till the end of this summer, which is expected to lure many local and foreign visitors to over of 50 beautifully-decorated kiosks offering fruit prices being 20 to 40 percent lower than those in markets, the organizers said on Friday.

A fruit artistic decoration contest, displays of giant fruits and roots such as a 110-kg pumpkin, a 50-kg wax gourd, a 10-kg coconut, and a 7-kg lemon, and a street food festival with the participation of restaurants from many Asian countries will be held on the sidelines of the festival, jointly organized by the municipal departments of tourism, and agriculture and rural development.

Vietnam exported fruits and vegetables worth of 1 billion U.S. dollars in the first four months of this year, posting a year-on-year surge of 32.1 percent, said the country's General Statistics Office.
