LONDON, May 25 (Xinhua) -- London Zoo's new treehouse-style luxury home for its family of apes is to open Saturday.
The zoo has created the new home for gibbons Jimmy and Yoda, where the pair will be able to swing through a maze of branches and ropes.
Visitors will be able to "hang out" with gibbons when the doors open to the zoo's newest exhibit on Saturday, taking people on a journey high into the Northern white-cheeked gibbon's new habitat,
A spokeswoman for ZSL London Zoo said: "Our zookeepers are looking forward to introducing the pair to their exciting new home, which has been designed to grow and change alongside the agile apes that live in it."
Senior zookeeper, Nicky Blundred, said: "We're excited to see Jimmy and Yoda explore their brand new treetop home here at ZSL London Zoo.
"We designed the leafy exhibit with lots of high branches and platforms for them to swing between, along with raised viewing areas to lift visitors up into their domain," explained the zookeeper.
While taking people on a voyage of discovery about the close connection between humans and small apes, the new exhibit will also highlight ZSL's important gibbon conservation work in China, where ZSL scientists are working to safeguard the world's rarest ape, the Hainan gibbon.
The spokeswoman added: "Due to threats including habitat loss and hunting, Hainan gibbons, of which there are approximately just 25 remaining, have been restricted to a single forest patch in Bawangling National Nature Reserve, on Hainan Island in China."
