BERLIN, May 24 (Xinhua) -- The Federal Statistical Office reported Wednesday that a record 23.5 million air passengers boarded planes in Germany in the first three months of 2017.
The number of passengers that departed from major German airports was up 4 percent compared with that in the first quarter of 2016.
Air travel within Germany increased by 2.9 percent but below average and international travel increased by 4.3 percent slightly above average.
Air travel to Turkey saw a sharp decline of almost 18 percent. The largest increase in passenger numbers was registered in flights to Africa, rising by almost 14 percent.
