ISLAMABAD, May 23 (Xinhua) -- The Pakistani army on Tuesday denied the Indian claim of destroying Pakistani posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in the disputed Kashmir region.
The Indian army earlier claimed it had shelled at and damaged Pakistani posts along the LoC, the de facto border, to stop militants from crossing into the Indian part of Kashmir.
"Indian claims of destroying Pakistani posts along LoC in Naushera sector and firing by Pakistan army on civilians across LoC are false," Pakistani military spokesman Major General Asif Ghafoor said on his official Twitter.
The claim and counter claim came amid tensions between the neighbours that have fought three wars, two over Kashmir, since their independence in 1947.
Pakistan and India had declared ceasefire along the LoC and working boundary in 2003.
There has been an escalation along the LoC and the working boundary since suspected militants attacked an army base in Indian-controlled Kashmir on Sept. 18 last year.
India blamed the Pakistan-based "Jaish-e-Mohammad" group. But Islamabad rejected the charges and suggested an independent investigation into the attack.
