ISLAMABAD, May 21 (Xinhua) -- At least eight people including four policemen and four militants were killed and two insurgents arrested in two separate attacks in Pakistan, local media reported early Sunday.
Quoting Deputy Superintendent of Police Raza Khan, local Urdu TV channel Dawn said unknown militants ambushed a police vehicle in Kohat district of the country's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province late Saturday night, killing four policemen including an official.
Khan said the militants sprayed bullets at the vehicle when it was on its routine patrolling on the highway, then fled the scene.
Heavy contingent of police reached at the attack site and kicked off a search operation.
Separately in Awaran district of the country's southwestern Balochistan province, four militants were killed and two others arrested by security forces, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), media wing of the Pakistani army, said in a statement.
The statement said the security forces conducted a raid at the militants' hideout located in mountainous terrain of the district, under the ongoing operation "Radd-ul-Fassad" aiming at the eradication of militancy from the country.
The forces recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the hideout before destroying it completely.
Identities of the militants were not revealed by the forces.
