VIENTIANE, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Lao Karatedo Federation will select 10 best fighters across different divisions next month to vie for medals at the 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games slated for August in Malaysia.
The federation is arranging for an experienced Thai professional seventh degree black belt coach to assist in the initial selection process. Fighters selected from various karatedo clubs will then participate in an intensive training camp with the federation keen to get more international coaching assistance, Lao state-run media Vientiane Times quoted a senior official of the federation Sonesak Nhansana as saying on Wednesday.
One male and one female fighter will compete in the kata (dancing) event, while the other eight will contest the kumite (fighting) events at the SEA Games.
During the Thailand Open Karatedo Championship in 2016, Lao team won two gold medals in the men's dancing (kata) event, a silver medal from the men's 70kg category cadet event and five bronze medals from other dancing and fighting events.
