BUCHAREST, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Moldovan President Igor Dodon on Monday left for Russia to take part in the victory parade in Moscow and to meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
Dodon wrote in a posting on social media that that he goes on a working visit to Russia on May 8, at the invitation of Putin and this is his third visit to the Russian Federation this year.
The president stressed that many problems were solved especially regarding the export of Moldovan products and migrants during his visits to Russia.
"The export of Moldovan goods to Russia grew by 42 percent, which significantly compensated its reduction in 2014-2016. In the first two months of the year, wine exports to Russia increased almost by five times, while apples by 7.3 times! " wrote the president in his posting, quoting the latest data published by the National Bureau of Statistics on the country's foreign trade in the first quarter of this year.
"The supply of Moldovan apples to the Russian market has already exceeded the volume of their exports in January-February 2014, before the ban was introduced, 39,000 tons against 18,000 tons," he added.
"This is the result of the work we are doing to resume our strategic partnership with the Russian Federation. We will work further," stressed Dodon.
Dodon made his first foreign visit as president to Moscow in mid-January, less than a month after becoming the head of state.
He stressed that restoring full-fledged ties with Russia, his "priority goal as head of state," will have a positive impact on the economy of Moldova, and hundreds of thousands of farmers and migrant workers.
