SYDNEY, May 5 (Xinhua) -- The Australian financial giant Macquarie Group reported a strong full year result on Friday, with a new record net profit of 2.217 billion Australian dollars (1.635 U.S. billion).
The record result was a 7.5-percent improvement over last year.
The chief executive officer of Macquarie Group, Nicholas Moore, said in a statement obtained by Xinhua on Friday that the result was one which showed his company's strength in a challenging global climate.
"The full year 2017 results highlighted the strength of Macquarie's global platform, the benefit of recent acquisitions, and its ability to adapt to changing conditions," Moore said.
Shares in Macquarie Group surged on the back of the strong result, and at 14:58 local time, were up 3.34 percent.
