RABAT, May 3 (Xinhua) -- The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) said Wednesday that it welcomed the resolution of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on the status of holy sites in the occupied eastern part of Jerusalem.

On Tuesday, the UNESCO voted in favor of an Arab-Palestinian draft decision supported by European countries, which reaffirms the status of the Old City of Jerusalem as a purely Palestinian territory with no Israeli sovereignty over it.

The draft decision also affirms the status of Al-Haram Al-Ibrahimi in Al-Khalil and the Bilal Ibn Rabah Mosque in Bethlehem as purely Muslim sites.

ISESCO called on the UNESCO to continue its support of the inalienable rights of the Palestinians through its decisions and resolutions.

It also called on the members of the UN body to provide greater support for the Palestinian cause in international forums and defend the rights of the Palestinian people to live freely and in dignity in their independent homeland.
