Two killed in college shooting in U.S. state of Texas

HOUSTON, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Two persons were killed Wednesday morning in a shooting at the North Lake College in Irving, a city in the northeastern part of U.S. state of Texas.

The shooting happened late Wednesday morning, the suspected gunman and a second person died in an apparent murder-suicide on the campus of the college, according to the police.

North Lake College issued an alert to students late Wednesday morning telling them to barricade themselves in the nearest room and wait for further instructions from police.

Witnesses said that students of the college rushed from campus buildings as the armed police moved toward a building. The police later found the two dead persons.

The college is still under lockdown and the police have begun investigating the real cause of the shooting.

Irving is an important city in Texas as several large companies have headquarters there, including ExxonMobil, the world's largest oil and gas company.
