BEIJING, May 2 (Xinhua) -- China's treasury bond futures closed lower on Tuesday, with the contract for settlement in June 2017 down 0.02 percent to 98.260 yuan (14.25 U.S. dollars).
The September contract closed 0.04 percent lower at 97.885 yuan. The December contract ended 0.09 percent lower at 97.545 yuan.
The contracts are agreements to buy or sell treasury bonds at a predetermined price and set date. They allow investors to bet on and profit from the movements in the value of the bonds.
The treasury bond futures were launched at the Shanghai-based China Financial Futures Exchange and started trading on Sept. 6, 2013.
