BERLIN, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said here Wednesday that China has sufficient reasons to enhance defense capability to safeguard its overseas legitimate interests and also contribute to regional and international peace.
He made the remarks when asked by a German journalist about China's intention behind the launch its first domestically built aircraft-carrier at a joint press conference with German Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel.
China's overseas interests, including personnel exchanges, have been extending around the world, Wang said.
There are nearly 30,000 overseas-registered Chinese-funded enterprises and millions of Chinese nationals working and living overseas, he said.
Moreover, a large number of the cargo ships on key international waterways are either carrying Chinese goods or are related to China, he added.
Wang stressed that one thing is for sure and remains unchanged: China will continue its national defense policy that is defensive in nature, and will never and has no intention to seek expansion.
China is seeking to establish a new type of international relationship with cooperation and win-win as its core, and hopes to work with other countries for building a community of common destiny for mankind, he said.
