TOKYO, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Tuesday as the yen's appreciation against the U.S. dollar dented investor sentiment and made exporter issues an unrealistic proposition, while dragging down the broader market.

As of 9:15 a.m. here, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 89.94 points, or 0.48 percent, from Monday to 18,707.94.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 8.27 points, or 0.55 percent, to 1,491.38.

Nonferrous metal, oil and coal product, and machinery issues comprised those that notably retreated into negative territory after the morning bell.
