Botswana hit by 6.5 magnitude earthquake

JOHANNESBURG, April 3 (Xinhua) -- A 6.5 magnitude earthquake was registered in the northwest of Botswana capital Gaborone at 7:40 p.m. on Monday.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake struck at a depth of 11 kilometers in a relatively remote region of Botswana, which is about 230 kilometers northwest to the capital.

No damages and injures has been reported.

The quake was also felt in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban of South Africa.

Johannesburg emergency services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said the tremor was felt around 7:45 p.m., and two buildings were evacuated as a safety precaution. Enditem
