HAVANA, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Bolivia's President Evo Morales will receive surgery on Friday in Havana to remove a nodule on his left vocal chord, the island's Juventud Rebelde daily confirmed Thursday.
"The surgery will be on Friday and is set to last between 15 and 20 minutes. Afterwards, the Bolivian president will have to maintain complete rest for at least 48 hours," wrote Cuba's second-most read newspaper.
Morales, 57, began to present throat problems in January during a number of speeches.
He was first treated by Bolivian doctors but soon was recommended to seek treatment in Cuba, whose health system is world-renowned.
He travelled to Cuba in early March to be diagnosed by local doctors, who recommended surgery to remove the small, benign tumor in his larynx.
He returned to Bolivia but reports from the country stated he had travelled to Cuba again this week, with Morales stating his "pain at abandoning the country for already known reasons."
It is anticipated Morales will need about two weeks to fully recover, which is normal for the operation.
