RABAT, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Moroccan authorities have arrested 14 people following violent demonstration in the northeastern city of Al Hoceima, the public prosecutor at the city appeal court said on Monday.
The accused were remanded in custody and under an investigation in the violent protests that were organized on Sunday in the localities of Imzouren and Beni Bouayach.
The demonstrations, motivated by economic demands, saw buildings torched and vehicles destroyed.
The situation in the city of Al Hoceima has been tense since the fish vendor Mouhcine Fikri died after climbing into a rubbish lorry to retrieve 500 kg of swordfish confiscated by police.
