HONG KONG, March 26 (Xinhua) -- The head of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) congratulated Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor on her election as the fifth-term chief executive of the HKSAR on Sunday.
The head of the office said that the election was conducted in line with the HKSAR Basic Law, relevant decisions of the National People's Congress Standing Committee and relevant laws of the HKSAR.
The election "embodied the principle of openness, fair play and justice," the official said, adding that the election went smoothly.
The official expressed hope that Lam will lead the SAR government in uniting all sectors of society; implement the principle of "one country, two systems" and the Basic Law fully and accurately; concentrate efforts on developing the economy and improving the people's quality of life; promote social stability and harmony; and strive to open up new prospects.
The office will, as always, fulfill its duties as empowered by the central government and support the chief executive and the SAR government in their administering of Hong Kong in accordance with the law, the official said.
