Landslide kills 2 in Indian-controlled Kashmir

NEW DELHI, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Two young girls were killed after being hit by a landslide in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said Sunday.

The landslide triggered at Barnadi Sigdi area of mountainous Kishtwar district , around 207 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"In a landslide which triggered here yesterday two girls (both aged 15 years) were killed, while as two others escaped unhurt," an official said. "The girls as per locals had gone to graze their cattle to the spot."

Following the incident, police team rushed to the spot and with the help of locals retrieved the bodies from the debris.

Indian-controlled Kashmir has a rugged terrain. Landslides are often triggered from its mountains during frequent rains.
