Indian navy's all-women crew to embark on circumnavigation tour

NEW DELHI, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Indian government Friday said an all-women crew of the Indian Navy would circumnavigate the world this year.

The women would embark on their sea journey in August in a boat - Indian naval sailing vessel (INSV) Tarini and would continue their journey for eight months.

The information was given India's junior minister for Defense Subhash Bhamre in the parliament.

"INSV Tarini with six women crew would set sail forNavika Sagar Parikrama' Project in August 2017 covering a distance of 20730 Nm from West-East route over a period of eight months," Bhamre said. "The main objective of the project is to promote ocean sailing at the international level and highlight the empowerment of women in the country.
