BEIJING, March 24 (Xinhua) -- The All-China Lawyers Association (ACLA) launched two centers Friday, one to protect lawyers' rights, the other to handle complaints.

The move is part of efforts to finalize basic rules for the profession, and to protect and standardize lawyers' professional work.

"In addition to the ACLA, all provincial lawyers' associations have established these centers," said Jiang Min, a spokesperson with the ACLA.

Before the move, the ACLA had released a document elaborating on the rules for lawyer associations to protect lawyers' professional rights.

All lawyers associations should designate telephone lines, email addresses and online platforms for lawyers to apply for protection of their practicing rights, according to the document

Associations should also develop rapid mechanisms to safeguard lawyers'personal safety during emergencies.

The ACLA had also enhanced the lawyers'code of conduct, clarifying their professional activities and specifying punishment procedures for violations.

Jiang said the moves would improve the work environment for lawyers and encourage honest practice.
