Sri Lanka condemns terrorist attack in London

COLOMBO, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka on Thursday condemned the terrorist attack in London, which resulted in at least five deaths, including the attacker, as well as some 40 injuries.

The Foreign Ministry said Sri Lanka is shocked by the terrorist attack which occurred Wednesday at the British Parliament.

"This attack at the heart of London, at Westminster, which is home to the oldest Parliament in the world ... deserves our utmost condemnation," the Foreign Ministry said.

The Foreign Ministry said the government and people of Sri Lanka stand firmly in support and solidarity with the government and people of the United Kingdom and extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to those injured in the attack," the Foreign Ministry said.

Sri Lanka said it condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and reiterates the need for collective action by the international community to combat this scourge.
