Trump, Putin congratulate Namibia on its 27th Independence anniversary

WINDHOEK, March 21 (Xinhua) -- President Donald Trump said the United States will work with the government of Namibia to promote peace.

In his message read during Namibia's 27th Independence celebrations held at Rundu (about 700 kilometers from Windhoek) Tuesday, Trump said it is his desire that the United States and Namibia work together to improve the lives of their citizens.

Trump also said that the government of Namibia has the full support of the U.S government in its quest for growth and a promising future.

Apart from Trump's message, Russian President Vladimir Putin also congratulated President Hage Geingob and the Namibian people on the occasion of the country's 27th Independence Day.

Putin lauded the friendly and constructive nature of the relationship between Russia and Namibia, saying that he has confidence in the continued development and mutual cooperation between the two countries.

Other messages came from the Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe and the DRC president Joseph Kabila. Sweden too sent its congratulatory message to Namibia.

Mugabe expressed his wish to continue fostering and expanding cooperation with Namibia in all aspects for the benefit of both Zimbabweans and Namibians.

He also said acknowledged that the relationship between the two countries goes back to the days of the liberation struggle.
