DAMASCUS, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Syria's Jihadi rebels unleashed Tuesday their second wave of attack Tuesday on the eastern part of Damascus, a day after the Syrian army foiled their first stage of offensive on the capital, the rebels announced in a statement online.
The jihadi rebels of Failaq al-Rahman and al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front unleashed a second attack early Tuesday from the rebel-held Jobar, toward the factories area on the separation line between the government-controlled areas in eastern Damascus, with the rebel-held ones in the Eastern Ghouta countryside.
The fresh wave of attack started by the explosion of a car bomb, which was the sign of the beginning of the second stage of the rebel attack on eastern Damascus.
The Syrian army was quick to confront the new offensive, particularly that troops and reinforcements are still in that position after succeeding to foil the first wave of attack by the rebels on Sunday, according to a military source.
Syrian warplanes are heavily striking the rebel positions in eastern Damascus as the ground forces succeeded to besiege the the rebel positions in the battle field and currently working on eliminating them, the source added on condition of anonymity.
The state media aired live from the Abbasyieen area which is close to the battles point, to prove false all of the rebel claims of achieving a breakthrough in their battles.
